Our client is a dynamic and forward-thinking construction company that specialises in delivering high-quality Garden Centre and Residential projects. With a growing portfolio of diverse projects, they pride themselves on creating sustainable and beautifully crafted spaces, from large-scale garden centres to bespoke residential developments. Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced and driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team.
Role Overview:
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a pivotal role in managing the financial and contractual aspects of various projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in construction, with experience in either residential or commercial sectors (preferably both), and a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management: Oversee all commercial aspects of projects from inception to completion, including budgeting, cost control, and value engineering.
- Cost Planning & Estimating: Prepare accurate cost plans, forecasts, and estimates to ensure projects remain within budget.
- Procurement & Contracts: Lead the procurement process, including negotiating with subcontractors, suppliers, and reviewing contracts to ensure the best value for the client.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare regular financial reports, monitor project costs, and provide strategic advice to the project team on any potential risks or cost-saving opportunities.
- Variations & Claims: Manage and assess variations, contract claims, and final accounts to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and guide junior QS staff, fostering a collaborative working environment.
- Client Liaison: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their requirements are met and expectations exceeded.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Qualified Quantity Surveyor with at least 5-7 years of experience in the construction industry.
- Experience working on residential or garden centre/commercial projects is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of standard forms of contracts (e.g. JCT, NEC).Excellent commercial acumen, negotiation skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong IT skills, particularly in cost management software and MS Office suite.
