ATG are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Ecologist to join a growing environmental consultancy team in Galway.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead ecological projects, provide expert advice on biodiversity and conservation matters, and contribute to environmental impact assessments (EIAs) across various sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage ecological surveys, including habitat assessments, protected species surveys, and impact assessments.
- Provide expert ecological advice to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
- Prepare high-quality ecological reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Appropriate Assessments (AA), and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR).
- Develop and implement ecological mitigation strategies and biodiversity enhancement plans.
- Manage and mentor junior ecologists, supporting their development and technical expertise.
- Liaise with statutory bodies, regulatory authorities, and local communities regarding ecological and biodiversity matters.
- Support business development by identifying new opportunities and preparing proposals for ecological services.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the EU Habitats Directive, Birds Directive, and Irish wildlife laws.
Requirements
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Zoology, Botany, or a related discipline. A postgraduate qualification is desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in ecological consultancy, conservation, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of Irish and EU environmental legislation and planning policies.
- Experience in leading habitat and protected species surveys, including bats, birds, otters, and amphibians.
- Proficiency in preparing EcIA, AA, and EIAR reports.
- Membership of CIEEM (or eligibility for membership) is desirable.
- Excellent project management and communication skills.
- Proficiency in GIS mapping and data analysis is an advantage.
- A valid driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
