ATG are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Principal Ecologist to lead an ecological team in Dublin and contribute to our expanding portfolio of environmental and ecological projects.
As a Principal Ecologist, you will be responsible for leading and managing ecological assessments, overseeing habitat surveys, and guiding Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) to support planning and development projects.
You will play a key strategic role in developing ecological services within the consultancy, mentoring junior staff, and liaising with key stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage ecological projects from inception to completion, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
- Conduct and oversee ecological surveys, including habitat assessments, species identification, and protected species surveys.
- Prepare and review complex reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Natura Impact Statements (NIS), and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs).
- Provide expert ecological advice to clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.
- Develop biodiversity strategies and mitigation plans for infrastructure and development projects.
- Ensure compliance with Irish and EU environmental legislation and policy.
- Represent the company in stakeholder meetings, public consultations, and regulatory discussions.
- Manage and mentor junior ecologists, providing training and technical guidance.
- Contribute to business development, including tender preparation and client relationship management.
- Promote innovation and best practices in ecological consultancy services.
Requirements:
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (a Master’s degree or PhD is advantageous).
- Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in ecological consultancy or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of Irish and EU environmental legislation and policy.
- Proven experience in leading ecological surveys, impact assessments, and mitigation planning.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM) is highly desirable.
- Strong business development skills and experience in client engagement.
- Proficiency in GIS, data analysis, and ecological modelling tools is beneficial.
- A full clean driving licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork.
