As an Offshore Owner’s Engineer, you will act as the technical representative for EirGrid, ensuring the successful delivery of offshore transmission infrastructure.
You will provide oversight of engineering design, construction, and commissioning, liaising with multiple stakeholders, including developers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical authority for offshore grid connection projects, ensuring compliance with EirGrid’s standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide engineering oversight during project development, design, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Review and assess offshore cable system design, installation methodologies, and risk assessments.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of offshore substations, HVDC/HVAC transmission systems, and interconnectors.
- Oversee contractor performance, ensuring adherence to technical specifications, health & safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Liaise with EirGrid, developers, government agencies, and other key stakeholders to ensure project alignment with national grid strategy.
- Support feasibility studies, risk assessments, and technical due diligence for offshore wind and transmission projects.
- Participate in site visits and offshore inspections to monitor construction and commissioning activities.
- Provide expert input into tendering, procurement strategies, and contract negotiations.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Offshore Engineering (or a related field).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred (or working towards it).
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in offshore wind, transmission, or subsea cable engineering.
- Strong knowledge of HVDC/HVAC transmission systems, offshore substations, and interconnectors.
- Experience with EirGrid grid codes, Irish & EU offshore regulations, and health & safety standards.
- Familiarity with industry software such as PSS/E, DigSILENT, ETAP, or similar is advantageous.
- Excellent problem-solving, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to travel offshore and to project sites as required.
