**Job Description: Ecologist**

A small, multidisciplinary consultancy is looking to expand its dedicated ecology team. With an office based in Sheffield, the company offers fully remote working opportunities, with no requirement to visit the office. The consultancy’s work primarily focuses on Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) projects, serving a range of clients in the Midlands and the North of England. Projects vary from small residential developments to large-scale renewable energy projects, with site work required in varying amounts depending on the project load and time of year.

The role involves delivering high-quality ecological assessments and contributing to a diverse portfolio of projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting BNG assessments, Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), and baseline ecological surveys. The position requires someone who can work independently, manage site visits, and ensure the successful completion of ecological work across a range of projects.

**Qualifications:**
- Strong experience in Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
- Proven ability to conduct Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA).
- Experience with baseline ecological surveys and assessments.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Flexibility to undertake site work, with willingness to travel across the Midlands and North of England.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Relevant ecological qualifications or membership with professional bodies (e.g., CIEEM) are desirable but not essential.

The consultancy offers a generous benefits package, including 33 days of holiday (inclusive of bank holidays), with the option to work on bank holidays and take the time off at another time. After two years with the company, employees are also eligible to take a sabbatical. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecologist who values flexibility and independence while working on a wide variety of impactful projects.
